Hutchison fell valiantly to GPS in the TSSAA Division 2 AA State Semifinal on Tuesday. While the final score appeared to reflect a lopsided 4-0 Bruiser win, the match was in fact a razor thin affair.
The Sting dropped the doubles point in a tiebreak in the number three double match. The Sting were in or headed to a third set in three of the six singles matches when the GPS clinched the match at the number five slot.
With the loss, the Sting's team season ends with a record of 15-3.
Hutchison will be represented in the State Individual tournament on Thursday by the Doubles pairs of Maggie Leavell & Caroline Orr and Neely Leavell & Grace Garrott.

The Hutchison Track and Field fought till the bitter end on Friday evening at the MUS Track. The Sting came up just a fraction short in the end, but it was there fight and determination that forced the Region Championship to not be decided until the final race of the meet.
With their Runner-Up trophy headed for the trophy case, the Sting will look to bring home some more hardware next week as they send 10 athletes to the State Championship Meet.
Junior Kayla Parker will get things started for the Sting on Monday as she competes in the Heptathlon. Parker was the West Region Runner-Up. Kayla will also represent Hutchison in the 100m Hurdles (1st in Region), 300m Hurdles (2nd in Region), and the High Jump (1st in Region).

The 4x200m & 4x400m Relays finished 3rd in the West Regional, but the Sting earned a wild card spot in the State Meet by posting one of the top times outside of the guaranteed spots.

Tennis Punches Ticket to State Final 4
Hutchison wasted little time in their State Quarterfinal Match with Ensworth on Friday afternoon. The Sting jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by capturing the Doubles point. Caroline Orr, Neely Leavell, and Amelia Sims then made quick work of their opponents at the 2, 3, and 4 slots to end the match.
Along the way, Sr. Amelia Sims pulled off one of sports rarest feats in the Golden Set. Translation: She did not lose one single point in any of the 6 games she played in the first set. She would close out her match by losing just four points total in the second.
With the win, the Sting are now 15-2 on the season. Hutchison will now travel to Murfreesboro next week for the State Tournament. The Sting will face GPS at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the State Semifinal.
